About Mendral
An AI DevOps Engineer for
engineering organizations.
Mendral automates the DevOps work your engineers shouldn't be doing manually. Three always-on agents for security, reliability, and performance, plus custom automations for any DevOps work specific to your stack.
Why we built Mendral
We have spent more than a decade in the trenches of modern software delivery — first at Docker, where we helped define what container-based development looks like, then at Dagger, where we tried to make CI programmable instead of declarative. Along the way we watched the same pattern repeat at every company we worked with.
Engineering teams pour an enormous amount of human attention into the mechanics of shipping: chasing flaky tests, triaging CI failures, fighting build slowdowns, reading the same CVE advisories every week, and reviewing the same kinds of mistakes in pull requests. None of that work is what anyone signed up for. It is also exactly the kind of work that modern AI agents are good at, when they are given enough context.
Mendral is our attempt to take that work off engineers' plates. Not as a copilot that suggests fixes for a human to accept, but as an AI DevOps Engineer that does the job end to end: diagnoses, fixes, opens the pull request, and learns from what happened. Shipping should not be gated on CI. With an AI DevOps Engineer in place, it isn't.
Founders
From the team behind Docker and Dagger.
Sam was VP of Engineering at Docker and a co-founder of Dagger, where he spent more than a decade shaping how modern teams build, test, and ship software. He started Mendral to put autonomous agents on the parts of CI/CD that humans dread.
What Mendral does
Mendral installs as a GitHub App in under five minutes, optionally connects to Slack, and starts reading CI logs immediately. Three always-on agents run from day one, plus any custom automations you add:
- Security Agent
Reviews dependency PRs. Pins safe versions, surfaces only the CVEs actually exploitable in your code, and catches compromised dependencies, malicious actions, and leaked secrets before they hit production.
- Reliability Agent
Diagnoses CI failures, fixes flaky tests, ships PRs. Identifies infrastructure issues and reliability patterns over time.
- Performance Agent
Cuts build time. Finds caching wins, parallelism opportunities, and slow tests to drop.
- Custom automations
Define your own DevOps automation: trigger from CI/CD events, infra alerts (Datadog, Sentry, cloud deploys), schedules, Slack, Linear, or webhooks.
See the architecture overview for how the agents fit into your delivery stack.
Frequently asked
What is Mendral?
Mendral is the AI DevOps Engineer — three always-on agents for security, reliability, and performance, plus custom automations for any DevOps work specific to your stack. It installs as a GitHub App and starts reading your CI logs immediately.
Is Mendral the same as Mistral AI?
No. Mendral (with an “e”) is a Y Combinator-backed AI DevOps company building the AI DevOps Engineer. Mistral AI is a separate French foundation-model lab. The two companies are unrelated, build different things, and are not affiliated.
Who founded Mendral?
Sam Alba and Andrea Luzzardi, the team behind Docker and Dagger. Sam was VP of Engineering at Docker and a co-founder of Dagger; Andrea was an early Docker engineer and a Dagger co-founder.
How does Mendral work?
Three always-on agents — Security, Reliability, and Performance — run from day one. The Security Agent reviews dependency PRs, pins safe versions, and surfaces only the CVEs actually exploitable in your code; it also catches compromised dependencies, malicious actions, and leaked secrets before they hit production. The Reliability Agent diagnoses CI failures and fixes flaky tests. The Performance Agent cuts build time via caching, parallelism, and slow-test pruning. On top of that, customers can add custom automations triggered from CI/CD events, infra alerts (Datadog, Sentry, cloud deploys), schedules, Slack, Linear, or webhooks. Mendral plugs into CI/CD, infrastructure, and notifications, then learns your stack from every run, every deploy, and every commit.
Which CI providers are supported?
GitHub Actions today. Buildkite, CircleCI, and GitLab CI support is coming next.
How fast does Mendral start working?
Install the GitHub App, optionally connect Slack, and Mendral starts reading your CI logs immediately. First insights within minutes, first auto-fix typically within hours.
How much does Mendral cost?
Mendral uses a flat monthly rate based on team size. No per-seat surprises, no usage caps, no per-incident charges. See the pricing page or email hello@mendral.com for a quote.
